Who Are You and Why do We Struggle with Identity Crisis?
 
I) What do you think about when you hear the word “Identity Crisis”?
• What the world says – identity crisis is a personal psychosocial conflict especially in adolescence that involves confusion about one’s social role and often a sense of loss of continuity to one’s personality.
• Experiencing an identity crisis feels like you may be questioning your sense of self or identity. This can often occur due to big changes or stressors in life, or due to factors such as age or advancement from a certain stage. (for example, school, work, or childhood).
• Having an Identity crises can also lead to impostor syndrome – False humility, feeling fake
• Identity crises are also common among people with mental illness, including depression, codependence, bipolar disorder, and borderline personality disorder.
• What the bible says – Genesis 1:27 “God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”
• 2 Corinthians 5:21 “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”
• Romans 3:22 “This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile.” (NIV)
II) What can we learn from the message Paul gave to the church of Ephesus, Ephesians 1:1-14? (let us break this down together) Paul wrote to help them realize God’s incredible grace, and the importance of relying upon His grace when attempting to stand firm in the faith.
 
A. Ephesians
• To Gods Holy people in Ephesus, the faithful in Christ Jesus.
• Blessed us with spiritual blessings.
• Chose us before creation to be holy and blameless in his sight.
• The Lord predestined us for adoption to sonship through Christ Jesus.
• The Lord freely gives us grace.
• We have redemption thru Christ Jesus.
• We were included in Christ when we heard the message of truth, the gospel of salvation.
• When you believe you will receive the promises of the Holy Spirit
• We were guaranteed our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possessions.
 
B. Romans 8:29
• We must conform to the image of his son, Romans 12:2
C. What happens when we do not believe the word? John 3:16-21 (NLT)
• Who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
• There is no judgement to those that believe in him.
• Anyone who do not believe in him has already been judged for not believing.
 
D. How to divide the truth from a lie?
1. Seek only things that are pure and holy.
• 2 Timothy 2:14-15
• Do not try to state your claim on who you are just believe. Do not argue with carnal minds about spiritual growth
2. See yourself the way the Lord sees you.
• 2 Corinthians 5:17
3. Know that you are loved and accepted
• 1 John 3:3
• Ephesians 1:6
4. Remember, you are redeemed, forgiven and complete.
• Colossians 1-14
• Colossians 2:10
5. We are free from condemnation.
• Roman 8:1
III. How do you get to speak with the Lord?
• Ephesians 2:18 – Direct access
• Philippians 4:6-7 – Make your petitions known to God
• The best way to renew your mind and experience inner transformation is by knowing, thinking, and speaking out loud who you are in Christ- Romans 10:17

1. Why would a Christian have an identity crisis?
 
2. What are some characteristics of identity crisis in the Body of Christ?
 
3. Why is it important to remember who we are in Christ? And who does the bible say we are?
 
4. What do you have to do to be redeemed?
 
5. Why did Paul tell Timothy to teach only the Word of God?
 
6. Why should we not try to argue and convince people who we are?
 
7. What does the Bible about why we should renew our mind?
 
8. What did the Lord say about if you do not believe?
 
9. How do you get in right standing with Christ?
 
10. How often do we have to remind ourselves who we are?
